Case studies

Staff at Today Advisory devote between six and 45 days per year towards voluntary activities that benefit the wider community.

We actively encourage staff and partners to participate in voluntary activities, which support the community and reflect our corporate values. Our extensive and long-standing charitable annual program of activities is well documented and available on our website. In addition, all members of staff regularly participate and invest their own time to support initiatives that align to our profession and/or partner groups, for example Today Translations’ Language for Export scheme and the Ready to Supply the City programme for small businesses.

Jurga Zilinskiene's extensive portfolio of philanthropic work includes mentoring young entrepreneurs and promoting British trade overseas, for which she won recognition from the His Royal Highness Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh.

Zilinskiene is also an active member of the UK Association of Translation Companies (ATC) and the European Union of Translation Companies. As chair of the ATC’s PR committee, she championed the improvement of standards within the language industry - an issue she believes merits increased attention following the problematic delivery of interpreting services to the UK Ministry of Justice in recent years.

Advisory Board member Sir Timothy Ackroyd is the founder of the wildlife charity Tusk Trust which has done much to protect endangered species and support communities in East Africa and Royal Patronage. David Clarke, advisory board member and chief advisor for security assurance and risk mitigation, is a volunteer trustee director of the Fraud Advisory Panel, specialising in financial crime strategy and risk reward. Ian Millar MBE is the Commandant of the City of London Police Special Constabulary and has devoted many years to this voluntary, unpaid role. He is also a member of the City of London’s Worshipful Company of Security Professionals, along with fellow Today Translations advisory board member Patrick Rarden MBE, who was awarded the MBE in 2014 for his voluntary work as a reserve policeman and founder of the charity ‘waste not want not’, that supplies unsold sandwiches to hostels for the homeless.

Today Translations also engages with a number of charities, donating a percentage of annual net profits to the Fairtrade Foundation. The firm is contributes to the Afghan Trust, which supports the families of wounded or killed veterans of the Afghanistan conflict.

In addition to this we hosted and funded the Courage and Benevolence Ball at London’s Café de Paris, which raised thousands of pounds towards research and treatment into Epidermolysis Bullosa in aid of the charity Debra.

Other charities Today Translations supports are Cricket 4 Change, Hospices of Hope and HRH Prince William’s charity, Tusk Trust.

Under the title of the Today Academy, we support the ‘Speak to the Future’ drive to promote language learning and champion the ‘Engage for Success’ movement, aimed at growing Britain’s talent base by releasing more of the capability and potential of people at work.
We have pioneered this ethos through our practices and extensive partnerships with public, private, academic and third-sector partners.

I congratulate Today Advisory on their innovative and cost effective approach to tackling this enormously important issue.
